This guide is more like a checklist as I explain in great detail how to shoot perfect panoramas every time in the video above.

STEP 1 (TRIPOD)

  • Ensure your Tripod (not head) is level
I do this by using a level on my tripod
  • Turn your camera to portrait orientation
Always shoot panos in portrait orientation. This will ensure you achieve an image with depth (tall image)
  • Ensure your camera is level on your tripod
I do this by using the level built into my camera

Step 2 (SHOOTING MODE)

  • Set your camera to manual
Ensure your exposure is correct. Use your light meter and/or histogram
Adviseable settings F11 - ISO100 - then adjust your shutter speed to ensure correct exposure
  • Focus your camera
I usually focus a third of the way into the frame.
Then switch your focus to manual

Shoot

  • Compose your image. It's still advisable to stick with "Rules of Thirds"
  • Shoot wider at the start and finish
You can always choose the best crop in post-production
  • Ensure you overlap your images by at least a third
