Harris & Lewis Photography Workshop & Courses

Just reflecting on the 5 day workshop I attended with Gary here on Harris and Lewis. I came to improve my photography and gain an insight into how he took the images he posts on his YouTube channel.
I was not disappointed. We were taken to several of the sites and the best "A1" shooting angles given and explained. Along the way, he taught how to use the exposure triangle our histogram and the ND filters.
I'll be honest at 68 and unfit. I would have happily on day 3 become a "lazy photographer" but Gary took all my moans in his stride and pulled me along with the rest of the group.
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat...
By the way, he only takes 5 folk on the workshop, so get in there if you fancy it.

The Isle of Harris and Lewis is a small, picturesque Island located North of Skye in the Outer Hebrides. The word picturesque is an understatement here! The island boasts ever-changing scenery, with mountainous, rugged coastlines and rolling hillsides.

White sandy beaches feature many top-10 world ranking lists, and clear turquoise seas complement them. You'd be forgiven if you thought you were in the Caribbean! This is enough to get any photographer excited and heading straight to their camera bag.

Topping this with a mixture of lunar-like terrain and moorlands, you'll soon realise you'll never have enough time on your hands no matter how long you stay!

As if that wasn't enough to get the juices flowing, the Island is full of wonderfully preserved derelict buildings abandoned from yesteryear. Who doesn't like the thrill of exploration?
I'm guessing you could say it's a photographer's paradise!

At the moment, the island is only being explored by adventurists. Still, with easy travel and plenty of reasonably priced places to stay, it won't be long before this outstanding area of beauty becomes the pride of place on every photographer's wish list!

Included accommodation
You will be staying in a luxury lodge south of the island. Each lodge has three bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities. You will have the bonus of having a comfortable lounge and a full kitchen to prepare your meals, a welcome haven after a busy day of shooting.  All lodges are located next to each other.

The lodges are just 10 miles out of Tarbert. Lodges are situated directly on a small loch. Here, you can see the seals swimming and basking on the rocks most of the day.

What skill level do I have to be?
All skills are welcome, beginner to advanced. With such a small group, I can cater to all levels. It’ll almost be like a 1-2-1 for the week. Group training will also be given, of course!

How fit do I need to be?
Not fit at all – All areas are accessible by vehicle and then a short walk.

Is my camera good enough?
Is it an SLR Camera? Then yes—all of the images displayed on this page could have been taken on a £250 DSLR, and the results would have been the same, guaranteed!
I will gladly lend you one of my Pro cameras, lenses and/or Filter kits.

What Equipment will I need?
Your Camera – Sturdy Tripod – ND filters (these aren't expensive, and I can advise the right ones to buy)

What if the weather is bad?
As Landscape photographers, inclement weather is just something we cannot predict. Even the best planning in the world can't account for adverse weather conditions, especially when planning so far in advance. We must be prepared for it. Because of this, we DO NOT GUARANTEE that we will be able to visit all the planned locations. We'll certainly try our best, though!

How much is the deposit, and when do I pay the balance?
£200 deposit is required to secure your place on the course – the balance is due six weeks before the 1st day of training.
