Lake District Photography Workshop

I have been photographing the Lake District in all its splendour for quite a few years. To say I know the area well is an understatement. I'm sure you already know this, but I create weekly YouTube videos, many of which have been from the Lakes. I live less than two hours away, so I consider the area my local go-to landscape photography destination.

  • Three luxury nights of single-occupancy hotel accommodation
  • Transport around the Lakes
  • Post-processing and critique sessions

What to expect...
My workshop of up to 5 attendees is action-packed. Depending on the weather and sunset/sunrise times, I'll take you to some incredible places for landscape photography. I usually crowbar in at least 3 or 4 different locations per day. I like to mix the locations up too. You like lakes, what about big vistas? What about a bit of woodland? I'm sure you like waterfalls. I've got it covered if the answer is yes to some or all of those mentioned above. I factor them all in; this way, I can guarantee there won't be a dull moment.

Having been on the workshop in the Lake district for four days in October, I can't praise it highly enough, it was beyond a 10 out of 10. Gary's photographic knowledge and tutoring skills together with amazing locations made this a fantastic worthwhile adventure. If you follow Gary on Youtube, you will already know how genuine and warm he is, you immediately feel at home in his company. The hospitality and down to earth friendliness of Gary, Paula and Cheryl was absolutely first class and the meal at the end of a days shooting was the topping to a great day. It was an amazing great value package and I would recommend anyone who is wanting to learn from a great photographer to have a look at Gary's workshops.

Training
I’m keeping the group size down to 5. This way, I’ll have the opportunity to spend the maximum amount of time with each attendee.

Skill Level
I have created this workshop for all skill levels. Are you new to photography, a keen enthusiast, or better? Don't worry; I've got you covered. As I always say during my introductory speech on the first morning of the workshop, you can use me as a one-to-one for the duration, or you can use me as an Uber driver. Of course, that's a little tongue-in-cheek, but some people like me standing over their shoulder, and some just prefer to crack on and ask for help as and when.

Fitness Level
This is normally the first question people ask. The answer is simple, as fit as me and I'm not fit at all! Most locations are just a short walk from the van. If we need to walk a little further, which we will sometimes do, then it's a case of slowly-slowly always wins the race!

FAQ's

What skill level do I have to be?
All skills are welcome, from beginner to advanced. With such a small group, I can cater to all levels. It’ll almost be like a 1-2-1 for the week. Group training will also be given, of course!

How many Attendees?
5 - We restrict the numbers to six to ensure you get as much tuition as possible. It'll feel like a full-on 1-2-1 for a whole week. You can also have as much space as you like!

Where do we stay?
We stay in a superb, warm and family-run luxury guest house. It's situated in the centre of the Lakes. It's ideally situated, offering easy access to most Lake District Photography hot spots. Each guest has their own (single occupancy) room with an en-suite bathroom.

How fit do I need to be?
This is normally the first question people ask. The answer is simple: as fit as me, and I'm not fit at all! Most locations are just a short walk from the van. If we need to walk a little further, which obviously we will do at times, then it's a case of slowly, slowly always winning the race!

Is my camera good enough?
Is it an SLR Camera? Then yes—all of the above could have been taken on a £250 DSLR, and the results would have been the same, guaranteed!
Pro Camera available to rent for £10 per day (inc. lens)

What Equipment will I need?
Your Camera – Sturdy Tripod – ND filters (these aren't expensive, and I can advise the right ones to buy)

What if the weather is bad?
As Landscape photographers, inclement weather is just something we cannot predict. Even the best planning in the world can't account for adverse weather conditions, especially when planning so far in advance. We must be prepared for it. Because of this, we DO NOT GUARANTEE that we will be able to visit all of the locations listed. We'll certainly try our best, though!

How much is the deposit, and when do I pay the balance?
£200 deposit is required to secure your place on the course – the balance is due 6 weeks before the 1st day of training.
