Lake District National Park Photography Workshop

Lake District Photography Workshop

I have been photographing the Lake District in all its splendour for quite a few years. To say I know the area well is an understatement. I'm sure you already know this, but I create weekly YouTube videos, many of which have been from the Lakes. I live less than two hours away, so I consider the area my local go-to landscape photography destination.

  • Three luxury nights of single-occupancy hotel accommodation
  • Transport around the Lakes
  • Post-processing and critique sessions

Lake District Photography Workshop

What to Expect
My workshop, designed for a maximum of 5 attendees, is action-packed and full of photographic adventures. Based on the weather and the timing of sunrise or sunset, I'll lead you to some truly spectacular landscape locations. Typically, we visit three to four different sites per day. I mix up the settings so that you experience a variety of natural scenes—whether it's serene lakes, expansive vistas, enchanting woodlands, or cascading waterfalls. Every itinerary is thoughtfully planned to ensure there’s never a dull moment.

Training
With a small group of up to 5 participants, I can dedicate plenty of time to each individual. This intimate setting allows for personalized, hands-on instruction where I guide you through techniques and offer constructive feedback throughout the day.

Skill Level
This workshop welcomes photographers of all levels. Whether you're just starting out, a passionate enthusiast, or a more experienced photographer, you’ll find valuable insights and tailored support. As I mention during the introductory session, you can think of me as your one-on-one mentor throughout the day, or, if you prefer, simply someone to call on for advice whenever you need it. I adapt my teaching style to meet your unique needs, ensuring you get the most out of the experience.

Fitness Level
Many participants ask about the physical demands of the workshop. The answer is simple: I’m not exceptionally fit either! Most of our locations are just a short walk from the van. On occasions when a longer walk is required, we take it at a relaxed pace. The goal is to enjoy the journey while capturing stunning images, so there's no need to worry about keeping up a brisk pace.

Lake District 5-Day Photography Workshop

"Having been on the workshop in the Lake district for four days in October, I can't praise it highly enough, it was beyond a 10 out of 10. Gary's photographic knowledge and tutoring skills together with amazing locations made this a fantastic worthwhile adventure. If you follow Gary on Youtube, you will already know how genuine and warm he is, you immediately feel at home in his company. The hospitality and down to earth friendliness of Gary, Paula and Cheryl was absolutely first class and the meal at the end of a days shooting was the topping to a great day. It was an amazing great value package and I would recommend anyone who is wanting to learn from a great photographer to have a look at Gary's workshops."

FAQ's

What skill level do I have to be?
All skills are welcome, from beginner to advanced. With such a small group, I can cater to all levels. It’ll almost be like a 1-2-1 for the week. Group training will also be given, of course!

How many Attendees?
5 - We restrict the numbers to six to ensure you get as much tuition as possible. It'll feel like a full-on 1-2-1 for a whole week. You can also have as much space as you like!

Where do we stay?
We stay in a superb, warm and family-run luxury guest house. It's situated in the centre of the Lakes. It's ideally situated, offering easy access to most Lake District Photography hot spots. Each guest has their own (single occupancy) room with an en-suite bathroom.

How fit do I need to be?
This is normally the first question people ask. The answer is simple: as fit as me, and I'm not fit at all! Most locations are just a short walk from the van. If we need to walk a little further, which obviously we will do at times, then it's a case of slowly, slowly always winning the race!

Is my camera good enough?
Is it an SLR Camera? Then yes—all of the above could have been taken on a £250 DSLR, and the results would have been the same, guaranteed!
Pro Camera available to rent for £10 per day (inc. lens)

What Equipment will I need?
Your Camera – Sturdy Tripod – ND filters (these aren't expensive, and I can advise the right ones to buy)

What if the weather is bad?
As Landscape photographers, inclement weather is just something we cannot predict. Even the best planning in the world can't account for adverse weather conditions, especially when planning so far in advance. We must be prepared for it. Because of this, we DO NOT GUARANTEE that we will be able to visit all of the locations listed. We'll certainly try our best, though!

How much is the deposit, and when do I pay the balance?
£200 deposit is required to secure your place on the course – the balance is due 6 weeks before the 1st day of training.

Requirements:
• Any DSLR or Mirrorless Camera
• Sturdy Tripod
• Neutral Density Filters (They're not expensive, and I'm happy to advise)
• Memory Cards
• Spare batteries/Charger.
